White As Bad Milk Wordpress Theme

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

So, I’ve been spending the last couple days recovering from a theme directory loss on my server. And, I thought I would just start up a new theme, so I went out looking for some already existing minimalistic themes, and I found a few I liked.

But, I really fell for White as Milk, but I need to spice it up a little bit. It was a sweet template, but it worked more like a bowl green beans and I wanted something like the enchiladas plate!

I tar’d it up for you guys to try out, have fun!

Gnome .dmrc file permissions & Apache

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

So, the other day I restored a few files in my home directory to get this nag from Ubuntu when I logged in saying the .dmrc file did not have correct permissions.

I searched around and found if you set the /home/<username> folder permissions to 700, it would fix it, and it did!

But then I tried to bring up http://cobweb/ which apache tries to load /home/aubrey/Sites/cobweb

/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default:
NameVirtualHost cobweb:80
<VirtualHost cobweb:80>
 ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost
 DocumentRoot /home/aubrey/Sites/cobweb
  <Directory /home/aubrey/Sites/cobweb>
   Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
   AllowOverride All
   Order allow,deny
   allow from 127.0.0.1
  </Directory>
</VirtualHost>
/etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 cobweb
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
127.0.1.1 aubrey-laptop

So, after some tinkering, I found out the proper permissioin for the home folder is 701, and after that, apache loaded http://cobweb/ correctly.

Happy camping!

Windowz

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

Well, here I am, back in Windows. I wonder how many time I might be moving back and forth, and people are just going to think I’m stupid? Not a long time, eh?

Well, I was trying to get some work done yesterday in Ubuntu, and I swear, for the life of me, there’s nothing better than watching YouTube videos and working at the same time, right? Well, I couldn’t do that, Firefox kept crashing after every other video. Yes, I did try some fixes, but by the time the day was done, I hadn’t got any work done, trying to fix the infernal thing, and I hadn’t even fixed it!

So, I had to sit down and get my priorities back in order, strange I always seems to cross this transition (Mental note: I hate doing links whilst I blog, or even ever, so I won’t this time, hunt around.) every time I realize I actually have to do work in Ubuntu.

There’s such a hand-off between Windows and Ubuntu, and overall, Windows always wins. I love the idea of being an Ubuntu user, but it just can’t happen because I’m also a working citizen.

I swear, people that have the time for Ubuntu, or Linux, must not have lives other than work. Because I didn’t the last week or so, and, I didn’t even get any work done?

But there was one good thing that came from this, Komodo Edit. I found it in search for a good cross-platform HTML/PHP Multi highlighted editor. It works great in Windows too, great project management!

Anyways, laugh if you want, but I’m off to get some work done…

Summertime

Summertime at NMSU

The campus was pretty stale today after work.

So, I know it’s summer when the campus starts acting a lot less lively. I’ve been here four years, and each summer the campus goes through this, I miss it being all crazy, all the time.

Although me and my friends boredom, outside of work, has got us hanging out again, which is a nice change.

Coding Away

I swear I'm not always goofing off, usually pasted to the screen.

Goofing off, the only way to code. That’s Renee, in the back, with all her paper :)

I think I mentioned before about how much time I’d be spending working on the Cobweb project. Already I’ve been spending 6-8 hour days working on it.

We had a meeting this morning with the lady in charge of working with the College Executive Committee, and already they’re excited to see what’s coming out of me and Renee’s office.

We have a lot of work to do this summer, the site is going to be an intense platform/application; meeting the most up-to-date standards, working well with the rest of the university, mingling well with content management systems and publishing software. It’s hard to think such a massive piece of work will be coming out of my little lappie (laptop).

Me, mighty mouse and my trusty lappie at work.

I’m trying to develop the site to be as much self managing as possible, letting anyone publish content at will, while the website does all the nasty work in the background. And, I don’t think they quite get how complex everything is, and so they’re rushing our already ‘pushing it’ December deadline.

But, as always, I plan to stand my ground and focus on quality work.

Tennis

Soo and James at the Tennis Center

Soo and James at the Tennis Center on another windy day. May 12th 2008

I haven’t been spending a lot of time at the NMSU Tennis Center since my arm getting better, it’s been windy day after day. My arm was at about 70%, this morning hitting with Jason, preparing for a match tomorrow.

Although he almost got past me today, me winning 7-5, I was crippled :)

I also haven’t been off to a good start on my goals for the summer, especially the one where I’m going to work out like a beast and get in shape for some tournaments. But, I’m working on that; if they would just quit bringing cake to the office, you know I have to have at least two slices!

Home Life & Travel

Aubrey Island, Walking to Work

Walking along the bike trail. Travis, Las Cruces, NM

Oh, and I’ve also been walking everywhere since my bike was stolen.

So, I’ve been getting in a little extra excersize for all the wretched snacking going on at my casa.

So, I thought I’d throw a summer update out there. Actually I was bored, but it just proves my point!
